Discipleship Home Project
Discipleship Home
The house we have been renting for the past five years has been a huge blessing for us and for our ministry. It has two floors. The bottom floor has two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small kitchen and living room. This is where Andrew and I have our bedroom and office space, and the other bedroom is for guests that come to visit. The top floor has a large, open living room that is perfect for group activities like Bible studies and a large kitchen that we use for meals. On this top floor there are also three bedrooms and a bathroom.
Because of these extra bedrooms, we have had the privilege of having Mexican men and women who have come out of addictions to come and live with us for a time. Here they can experience Christian life with a family that loves them, prays for them, and teaches them how to walk with God on a daily basis. Since we minister a lot in centers where people are getting off of addictions, we have seen so many fall back into their old way of life. We feel a pressing need to have a discipleship home where these people can live for a time instead of returning immediately to the pressure of their old friends and a difficult home life.
A short time ago, I (Andrew) had a dream: God appeared to me in form of a dear pastor, and he asked me a question. “Andrew, what do you want?” I answered that I wanted a house where my wife and I could make disciples – where people could come to live and learn how to follow the Lord.
Again God asked me, “What do you want?” I answered that the house must have high walls around it for protection, and it should have beautiful things in it, because at times women would be living here. God continued to ask me what I wanted, and I continued to mention different things, such as a garden with trees.
Finally, God asked me one more time, “Andrew, what do you want?” I was about to ask him for the money I thought we would need for this project, and then I remembered that my Dad had told me, “People usually short change themselves. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need.”
So I prayed, “Lord, you have given me this dream to ask You for what we need, so, Lord, I ask you for 250 thousand dollars to buy what we need for this discipleship home.”
A while ago, our landlady passed on from this life, and now her family is going to sell the house we are living in. The way this house is set up, we feel that it is an excellent place to be able to disciple three to even six people at once. We believe that buying this house is the first step in fulfilling this dream that God has put in our hearts. Please, pray for us, and if you feel God leading you to take part in this project, please, let us know.
