Dear Friends,
As we look out on rain clouds again today, we are thankful to the Lord for His refreshing rain. We are also so grateful for His outpouring of love and refreshment in our hearts and in those we minister to here in Mexico.
Women Ambassadors for Christ
Since our last letter, we had three women living with us and learning to become what we are calling “Embajadoras de Cristo” which means Christ’s Women Ambassadors. We are so grateful to God that we were able to give these ladies a place where they could focus on Him and allow Him to work in them. They learned many things about God, the Bible, how to walk in His ways, and how to share His love with others. Karen was with us for five months, Adriana was with us for two and a half months, and Maritza was with us for one month. It was such a joy to work with them! Please pray that the Lord would guide us in this ministry of discipling women in our home. Even though these women are not living with us right now, we are still working with them through discipleship classes and ministry times at the women’s rehab center and at Aves Restauradas (Restored Birds) which is the Christian men’s rehab center we are involved with.
Biblical Storytelling (STS)
In June, we took a trip to Cacalote, Oaxaca, to train a church in Biblical storytelling. The church was in a transition from one pastor to another, and the pastor that was leaving wanted to have the church trained in something very practical before he turned the leadership of the church over to the new pastor. What a privilege it was to go spend two weeks working with those dedicated brothers and sisters, teaching them how to share God’s Word through stories, questions and discussion!
Now every Sunday afternoon, Andrew and I, along with our missionary friend Angelina who is from the Philippines, travel to a town called Oacalco. There we are teaching Biblical storytelling to about thirty people. Most of them belong to the church that is hosting the training, and two of them are men that attend a missionary training school close by where they are preparing to be missionaries in Asia. As part of the training, we are practicing telling stories to some families from an indigenous tribe that live near the church. They are happy to receive the visitors and hear the stories from the Bible. As the students share stories, may the Lord speak to these people through His Word.
