2017 Earthquake
(this blog contains some facebook posts that are prettier to see not on a mobile device)
On September 19, 2017 an Earthquake struck. The epicenter was in Axiochiapan, Morelos with a magnitude of 7.1. Devastation insued. Buildings collapsed leaving families without homes, and children without schools, and churches without building. Not to mention the amount of business buildings and roads that were destroyed. Our house was spared. We knew that God would want us to help as much as we could.
I immediately went on social media to give an update to friends and family
A family of 5 who had become homeless due to the hurricane stayed with us for months to come. We were able to develop close friendship with them and we blessed each other with company and safety.
Here is a post listing cities in Morelos and the devastation they were incurring.
God put Sheryl and I here as one of his agents. We knew that with your help, we could make a difference.
We found as many ways as we could to minister and give hope to everyone affected.
Ya'll pulled through. Your donations started pouring and quickly went into purchasing tools to help.
We cannot thank you enough.
With lack of equipment to move gravel and rocks from peoples houses and the roads, people would use their hands and back strength. Tools may appear to be a small thing, but to us - it meant everything.
Through my years in Morelos, I had made many connections with people here. They are my friends and they are my chosen family. These connections gave me the opportunity to distribute the tools to those who would be able to contribute to the effort locally.
With each delivery, we saw faces light up. And so many people willing to help their fellow man.
With each delivery, we were able to connect to those people who were selfless and dedicating their lives, time, and resources to their neighbors.
The rebuilding of Central Mexico took a lot of time. Many people did not have a home to go back to and are still suffering the consequence of this earthquake. Many children suffered in their education, as they missed close to a year of schooling due to not having a safe location to go.
We thank you for your efforts in giving to the cause. Every single dollar sent, changed lives and gave opportunities to those who were hopeless.
